Donuts, airplanes and a giant bat

This past weekend was supposed to be pretty low-key but in typical Summa style we managed to jam a ton of activities into a few action-packed days.

Friday night Dan had class so I went to see the new Tracy Letts production of "Superior Donuts" at the Steppenwolf Theater. It was fantastic. If any of you locals are looking for something different to do I would highly recommend checking this out before it's gone.

Saturday Dan had to work (notice a theme here?) but managed to get out a bit early. We headed down to the waterfront to watch the Air & Water Show with about 500,000 other people. We stayed to see the Blue Angels put on their show which is always fun. It really is amazing to see them fly...and it made us realize that Dan's brother, Greg, seriously has about the coolest job of anyone we know (he's a Major in the Marines and flies F/A-18 Hornets. Plus he was an instructor at Top Gun.) Suddenly our jobs sound so lame...

Sunday Dan, yes, had school so I met him down at campus later that evening and we went to see "The Dark Knight" which was - shocking - very dark but well done. It was especially fun to try and figure out where they were filming in Chicago during each of the scenes. We enjoyed it but I'm not so sure about Baby Summa. He was completely freaking out during the first ten minutes of the movie. I don't know if he was just so excited to see another Batman movie (like his Dad) or if he was upset we didn't opt to see some limited release indie film (like his Mom.) I guess we'll find out soon enough!
