Christmas cookies & cheer

Last week I mixed a little business with pleasure by parlaying my client meeting in Connecticut into a weekend in NYC with my sister-in-law, Tracey, and my mother-in-law, Sue. Not only was it fun to spend time with them, it was great to see the city in all its holiday splendor. I was even able to make a trip down to my old stomping grounds in Little Italy! Big Sue - thanks for spoiling me silly (as always!) and T, thanks for letting me take over your bed!

Mac helps decorate cookies

Sunday I had promised Mac we'd bake some Christmas cookies and thus began the cooking extravaganza. I think I've been watching too much "Top Chef" because for some reason I got really ambitious this morning and decided to make sugar cookies, white bean chicken chili, roasted pork tenderloin, root vegetable casserole, homemade mashed potatoes and my Mom's famous cinnamon bread. I'm happy to say that after roasting in the kitchen for a few hours, almost everything turned out great. The exception would be the cinnamon bread. I always knew it wasn't "easy" to make homemade bread but wow, it's tough! My first attempt failed miserably and I was left with two lovely new doorstops. I think I'll try again when my Mom is here to walk me through the process step by step!
