'Mo stories, 'Mo questions

We're big Mo Willems fans at our house and recently Mac has really gotten into the story of Knuffle Bunny. We're now reading it an average of 3x every night before Mommy finally decides that "the book is tired and needs to go to sleep." This coupled with the fact that Mac is full tilt in the "why?" phase makes for an interesting conversation at bedtime.

Me: Trixie and her Daddy walk to the laundromat...
Mac: Why?
Me: Well, because not everyone has a washer and dryer at their house, so they have to go to a place called the laundromat.
Mac: Why?
Me: Well, because sometimes people living in smaller places - especially in the city - don't have room.
Mac: Why?
Me: Well, because that's urban living, buddy.

Advance one page.

Me: Trixie helped her Daddy put the laundry into the machine.
Mac: Why?
Me: Well, because it was dirty.
Mac: Why dirty?
Me: Well, because maybe they were out running around and playing and they got sweaty.
Mac: Why sweaty?
Me: Well, because they were hot. It was hot outside.
Mac: Why?
Me: Because it was summer. And the sun was out. And it was, like, 95 degrees with crazy humidity.
Mac: Why?
Me: [Thinking...] *Because God made it that way.
Mac: [Silence] Okay.

*Special thanks to my friend, Casey, for bestowing the wisdom of "God made it that way" onto me. It truly is a wonderful way to squelch conversations.
