Well, it's officially Lent for all us Catholics. That means it's time to figure out what we'll be giving up for the next 40 days in the spirit of sacrifice. Last year, Dan and I surrendered the remote control and gave up TV. It sounds horrible, but actually turned out to be a lot easier than we thought.
This year, we've decided to double down and give up two of our favorite things - sugar and alcohol. We've taken up a bad habit of craving something sweet after dinner, which has led to some late night candy binges. Not good for the teeth or the waistline. To add insult to injury, we're going to give up drinking 6 out of 7 days. We talked about going cold turkey, but that just seemed miserable (and downright cruel.) Last night, it was comical watching both of us eye the wine rack. There was a moment when I thought we wouldn't even make it through Day 1 but we were able to distract ourselves with some delicious carbonated water and lime (ha!)
It's going to be a long 40 days, so please forgive us in advance for being short on the phone or just plain angry. Hopefully we'll at least lose a few pounds over the next month, which would at least be a nice reward. But of course, this is all in the name of the good Lord so really no reward is needed (wink, wink.)
