Every year we make a trip to Julian, CA so we can spend a few hours feeling like we're back in the Midwest. It's just an hour away from San Diego but since it's up in the mountains the climate is totally different. They leaves actually change colors and in winter it even snows! It reminds me so much of a little Wisconsin town and my heart just swells with happiness every time we visit.
The first year we went to Julian, we accidentally went during pear season. Lots of Green Angous and Bartletts but not an apple in sight. Last year, we went a little too late and could only buy pre-picked apples. This year we finally got it right and had a full afternoon of apple picking, cider drinking, doughnut eating deliciousness. I guess you can take the girl out of the Midwest but you definitely can't take the Midwest out of this girl!
