New friends

A few weeks ago I decided on a whim to take Mac and Paige to the pet store for their very first pets. I figured it would be a good way to teach them a lesson about responsibility and taking care of something other than themselves. What better (minimum investment, low risk of dying) first pet than a beta fish?!?
Mac picked up a blue male fish and named him Sam after his favorite cousin. He told me that he "liked Sam so much he wanted another Sam." Too sweet.
Paige managed to score the only pink and purple fish I've ever seen and named her Scarlett. No idea where that one came from. The kids were completely enamored with their fish for the first few days. Mac lovingly tended to Sam in his room, checking up on him when he wasn't eating and reassuring him that he was safe in his new home. Paige continuously tried to pet and hug Scarlett to the point where I found the poor thing lying on the rocks in about 2" of water. As a result, both fish have now migrated downstairs. And who takes care of the fish now, dare you ask? Yep, I brought this one on myself.
