"Sand" Diego: Day One

 The scene of the crime

Well, we successfully made it out to San Diego! I won't bother recapping the journey - as you can imagine, a 5+ hour plane flight with toddlers is daunting. Anyway, I will tell you that it's absolutely beautiful here - truly words cannot describe. And we're so happy to be together again as a family! We're staying with Dan in corporate housing for the next two days until our rental home is ready this weekend. We drove past it last night and the neighborhood looks adorable and very family-friendly.

Now for the details of our first day...of course it wouldn't be a true "Summa Story" without a bit of drama! We decided this morning to go check out the park near our new house. The first thing I realized is that the morning fog quickly burns off and it gets hot around 9:30. That would explain why people were starting to pack up as we arrived. I also noticed that instead of the astroturf we're used to in Chicago, the playground is in a pit of fine white sand.

After running around and playing for a bit, we decided to head out to meet Dan for lunch. That's when I realized my car keys were missing. Cue my frantic search through the mountains of sand for said keys. As I'm searching, I happen to glance up and realize Paige is dangerously close to what appears to be a pile of dried up animal poop. Cue my slow motion scream of, "NOOOOOOO!!!!" as she picks up a piece and puts it IN HER MOUTH! I abandon the key hunt and am now frantically using wipes to scrape pieces of dried up poop out of Paige's mouth. As you can imagine, she quickly realized this was disgusting and is now vomiting all over me, her clothes, the ground. Mac, observing all the action, starts to scream, "Paige eating animal poop?!? EWWWWW!!! Gross!" Another woman at the park finally comes over and asks me if I need help, to which I gratefully reply, "Yes, please!" She quickly locates my keys in the sand. As I walk over to take them from her, I slip on the sand and completely wipe out. At this point, I realize we have made an absolute spectacle at our brand new park on Day One. Needless to say, with every new experience comes a new adventure. Welcome to "Sand" Diego!
