Arachnophobia

Tarantula - or "scary big spider" as the kids call it

As we begin to settle into our new neighborhood we're discovering that we have all sort of new friends. When Sue Sue and Bubba were here two weeks ago Bubba called me into the garage to look at "a big spider." I was thinking it was a wolf spider as we had seen one a few days earlier in our shower.
Wolf spider - recently found in my shower. Not, not, not funny.

Bubba lifted up a plastic bucket he had used to cover the spider and I almost had a heart attack. This was definitely not a wolf spider. This was a larger than life tarantula!!! Bubba was kind enough to escort the tarantula out of our garage while my husband tried to convince me not to pack up and move right then and there. Everyone told me this was a total fluke. I mean, how often do you see a tarantula other than at the zoo?

Fast forward to Friday night. I'm walking to the park with the kids when I suddenly notice something near the wheels of Paige's shopping cart. Oh yes. It's another tarantula. Dare I say I was a bit more calm this time because now I'm "used to them?!?" As long as I don't find one in my house I guess we'll just have to get used to our new furry/huge/terrifying friends!
