The thing I like the least about training for the marathon is the weekend long runs. It's not so much the mileage (I mean, that stinks but that's a given) but the time commitment. Saying, "Bye! Out for a run! Back in THREE HOURS!" is just insane to me. I usually do my long runs with a group of friends from my running club, but we have a race this Sunday so no one wanted to double down. I recruited another friend who isn't in our club to run, but she had to back out last night after coming down with a stomach bug.
So...that meant I had to knock out 20 miles today - alone. I don't run alone anymore for safety reasons, which meant, yes, I had to run on the treadmill (or "the dreadmill" as I lovingly refer to it.) I was planning to just do 10 and then hop off and run the rest outside once the sun was up. At the last minute, I decided to just stay on the treadmill and push through. It was a loooooong and boring run but it's done and I'm SO glad! All I can think about is having a glass of wine tonight and going to bed!
