View of the smoke from our street
Yesterday was a very scary day here in San Diego. It's been crazy-dry this season and wildfires are in full swing. We heard yesterday afternoon that a fire had broken out behind the high school in our neighborhood (about 1/2 mile from our house.) The Santa Ana winds are also in full effect, so what started out as a small brush fire quickly spread to a very fast-moving and dangerous fire.
Being a Midwest girl, I had absolutely no idea what to do when I first heard the news. I mean - quick, besides the kids and yourself, what do you grab from your house? If you had an hour to pack, what would you bring? It was really surreal and very nerve-wracking. The fire ultimately headed north and we were not forced to evacuate but the neighborhood literally less than a mile away had to leave.
We're now watching the news and saying prayers that our friends and neighbors are safe. The fire is still burning and is only 25% contained so we're hoping for the winds to at least die down today.
